Ain't Misbehavin' Takes Stage at the Westchester Broadway Theatre

Coinciding perfectly with Black History Month is the musical revue performance of Ain't Misbehavin', at the Westchester Broadway Theatre. Ain't Misbehavin' is winner of the 1978 Tony Award for Best Musical.
This play is a tribute to the black musicians of the '20s and '30s who were part of the Harlem Renaissance, an era of growing creativity, cultural awareness, and ethnic pride, and takes its title from the 1929 Waller song "Ain't Misbehavin'.
Thomas “Fats” Waller rose to international fame during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club. Experience the heart and soul of Harlem where the onset of swing joined ranks with the rhythms of ragtime and the passions of jazz, creating an explosive musical movement.
The scenes & musical numbers from act two were certainly the strongest part of the show. Audience members felt encouraged to tap their toes, clap their hands and bop along to the tunes. Musical numbers The Viper's Drag, Fat and Greasy and Black and Blue were especially engaging. The harmonization and the powerful double meaning of Black and Blue made this the highlight performance of the evening.
M. Martine Allard, Ron Lucas, Tony Perry, Anita Welch and Amy Jo Phillips star in this five-person cast. The last day Ain't Misbehavin' will be performed at the Westchester Broadway Theatre is on February 24.
A three-course meal is served prior to the show and is included in the price of the play ticket. I enjoyed the house salad, eggplant parmesan and their infamous dessert, peach melba. Musical themed cocktails and luxury desserts are also offered.
