Music Theatre of Connecticut (MTC) has done it again! Their current production of Steel Magnolias is a heartwarming show from start to finish that is filled both with laughter and tears.

Set in wise-cracking, Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager, new assistant, Annelle -currently experiencing problems in her marriage-, the two ladies dispense shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon such as, Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth, and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby -the prettiest girl in town- is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Steel Magnolias is a story of hilarious repartee, acerbic yet humorously revealing verbal collisions, and the sudden realization of mortality within an all too perfect beauty salon. Strength and love make this play, and its characters, truly touching, funny, and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

This all-female six person cast includes Raissa Katona Bennet (Truvy), Kirsti Carnahan (Oiser), Andrea Lynn Green (Shelby), Cynthia Hannah (Clairee), Kaia Monroe (M'Lynn) and Rachel Rival (Annelle). With an impressive resume -- including prior Broadway performances and television roles -- this ensemble of talented women do a tremendous job pulling the audience in and allowing us to feel that we personally know all of these characters in real life!

Not only is this an all-female cast, but MTC's production of Steel Magnolia's is directed by a woman. Director, Pamela Hill, has been involved with numerous plays at MTC including Always...Patsy Cline, The 39 Steps and Sleuth. In 2019 it is more important than ever to see strong female characters and women who work together!

Hurry! MTC's production of Steel Magnolias is only showing until Sunday, November 24. To learn more and to purchase tickets, please visit their website.
